“CHALLENGING HISTORIES: FROM THE ARCHIVES TO THE PUBLIC”

This seminar will explore some of the main key questions in this network: how do we deal with challenging, sensitive and difficult photographic collections when doing archive research, and what happens when those materials reach the public? What are the ethical dilemmas that historians, curators and archives face while doing this work? Can we widen the access to medical photographs while preserving the dignity of both the people in the past and present viewers?
Our two speakers, Prof Manon Parry and Dr Michaela Clark, will explore these questions and more, reflecting on their own practice as academics and curators. There will be plenty of time for discussion.
